Stage 1 · Lesson 6 of 8
ISO/IEC 42001 and the OECD AI Principles
:2023, published in December 2023, is the international standard for an AI management system. Like ISO/IEC 27001 for security, it describes how an organisation runs AI responsibly as a managed process: policies, roles, risk and impact assessments, controls in its Annex A, and continual improvement.
Organisations can be certified against it by an accredited body, which is why it appears in customer questionnaires. The , adopted in 2019 and updated in May 2024, are the first intergovernmental standard on AI: five values (inclusive growth, human rights and fairness, transparency, robustness and safety, accountability) and five recommendations to governments. Many national policies borrow their language.
Common trapthinking ISO certification equals compliance. They overlap but are mapped separately.
