AI governance

Stage 1 · Lesson 7 of 8

Pakistan, India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia

Why AI governance, and the rules

Outside Europe, most governments have chosen policies and principles rather than AI laws so far. 's federal cabinet approved the National AI Policy 2025 in July 2025, led by the Ministry of IT and Telecom: it focuses on adoption, skills (training one million people in AI by 2030) and a secure AI ecosystem, with an AI council to oversee it.

India's AI Governance Guidelines, released by on 5 November 2025, are voluntary, say no new AI law is needed for now and rely on existing laws such as the and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. The UAE's Charter for the Development and Use of AI sets twelve principles, including safety, bias, privacy and human oversight.

Saudi Arabia's published AI Ethics Principles 2.0 in September 2023 with seven principles.

Common trapassuming no AI law means no obligations: data protection and sector rules still apply.
