Stage 2 · Lesson 2 of 7
Thinking traps behind self-doubt
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) describes predictable thinking traps that fuel self-doubt. Discounting the positive: "I passed, but it was an easy paper." Mind reading: "They think my question is stupid."
All-or-nothing: "If I am not the best, I am a failure." Labelling: "I am an idiot" after one mistake. Fortune telling: "I will mess up the presentation."
Comparison: "She is ahead of me, so I am behind." Naming the trap when it appears gives you a little distance from the thought. You are not trying to replace it with fake positivity, only to see it clearly.
Common trapbelieving a thought because it feels true. Feelings are real, but they are not evidence about your ability.
