Stage 1 · Lesson 2 of 7
Accounts, AWS Organizations and consolidated billing
On AWS, the account is the unit that owns resources and incurs charges. groups accounts under one management account, which receives a single consolidated bill and sees every member account's costs. Many FinOps tools, such as the settings, can only be managed from the management account.
This structure is your first and cleanest allocation tool: if each team or environment has its own account, much of the bill is already split before you write a single tag.
Common trapputting several teams and environments in one shared account, which forces every split to depend on perfect tagging.
