Freelancing

Stage 8 · Lesson 8 of 8

More than one source of clients

Growing your practice

A channel is a place find you, such as Upwork, Fiverr, referrals or your own site. Relying on one channel is risky. Platforms change fees, profiles and search rules, sometimes overnight.

Upwork did exactly this with its fee in 2025 and with profiles in 2026. A healthy means adding a second source slowly, once your main one works. That could be a and referrals alongside Upwork or Fiverr, or a platform profile alongside direct work.

Keep platform rules in mind. Clients you met on Upwork stay under its rules unless you use the conversion option, and Fiverr buyers must order on Fiverr. any other way breaks the rules. Keep your own list of clients you met directly, and your own records.

Common trapbuilding everything on one account, so a policy change or a mistaken suspension stops your income entirely.
