Stage 2 · Lesson 3 of 8
Work authorisation questions
Application forms often ask "Are you authorised to work in the United States?" or "Will you require sponsorship?". Sponsorship means the company helping you get a work visa. For a remote role, these questions are about where you will work from.
If you will work from your own country, you are usually not asking for a visa. But you are still not authorised to work in the US, so answer honestly. Then use the notes field or your to explain.
Say you will work remotely from your country, as an employee through an or as a contractor. Answering "yes" just to get past a filter is a lie. It comes out at contract stage and can end the offer.
Common trapreading "no sponsorship" as "open to everyone"; often it means the role is for residents only.
