Speaking and being heard

Stage 5 · Lesson 5 of 6

Leaving a conversation politely

Small talk and networking events

Many people stay stuck in one conversation at an event because they do not know how to leave. A polite exit is normal and expected: "It was great talking to you. I am going to say hello to a few more people.

Can I connect with you on LinkedIn?" Or: "I will grab some tea before the next talk. Good luck with the project."

Shake hands or smile, and go. If you want to stay in touch, ask before you leave and add a note to remember them.

Common trapclinging to the one person you know all evening, which is comfortable but means you meet no one new.

A question to check yourself come when you add the roadmap to your account. Add it
