Stage 1 · Lesson 2 of 7
Net gain, not the gross salary
A salary abroad looks huge once you convert it into rupees, taka or naira. That number means little on its own. What matters is your : pay after income tax and social contributions, minus rent, transport, food, insurance, school fees if you have children, and money you send home.
Rent in a big city can take a third or more of a junior salary. Some countries tax income heavily but give public healthcare and a pension; the Gulf has no personal income tax but higher costs for things like schooling. Build the comparison in one currency, for one city, from official salary data, real listings and a cost of living site.
Common trapcomparing a foreign with your take-home pay at home and calling the difference profit.
