Registration and residence permit in Germany

Your first 90 days

In Germany, register your address at the local citizens' office () within two weeks of moving into a flat; you need a confirmation from the landlord to do it. Registration brings your tax ID by post, which your employer needs for payroll.

You will usually have entered on a national visa, and the local foreigners' authority () then issues your residence permit, such as the card; appointments can take weeks, so book early. Sign up for health insurance from day one, since it is compulsory. Open a bank account for your salary.

Common trapa temporary flat whose landlord will not give a registration confirmation, which blocks the tax ID, the bank and the permit at once.

A question to check yourself, an AI practice session and 2 cheat sheet entries come when you add the roadmap to your account. Add it
