Stage 6 · Lesson 2 of 5
Contract terms that matter
Before you resign from your current job, read the contract abroad line by line. Check the job title (it can affect your visa), salary and when it is paid, working hours, and what happens if it is not passed, on both sides, non-compete and confidentiality clauses, who owns side projects, and any clause making you repay relocation costs if you leave early.
Check that the start date depends on your visa being approved. If something is unclear, ask in writing and get the answer in writing. In many countries a contract in a language you do not read is still binding, so ask for a translation.
Common trapresigning at home on the strength of an offer letter, before the contract and the visa are both settled.
