Stage 6 · Lesson 3 of 5
Negotiating a relocation package
A is what the employer pays to move you: flights for you and often your family, visa and permit fees, for the first weeks, shipping or a cash , and sometimes help finding a flat or a school. Some employers offer a lump sum instead, which may be taxed.
Ask what is included before you accept, and negotiate on the items that matter most to you, such as longer temporary housing or flights for family. Base salary is usually harder to move than a one-off relocation amount, so ask for the right thing. Get every promise in the contract or a written addendum.
Common trapaccepting "we will help you with relocation" without numbers, then paying for flights and a month of hotel yourself.
