Not for emergencies
7 Cups listeners are volunteers, not therapists, and they cannot provide crisis support. If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm, or you are not safe, contact local emergency services or use Find A Helpline. Sefism is not a medical or crisis service.
What it is
7 Cups is an online emotional support platform. Its core service is free one-to-one text chat with a trained volunteer listener, available around the clock because listeners are spread across many time zones. There are also community forums and group chat rooms on topics such as anxiety, loneliness, relationships and stress, and a paid option for therapy with licensed professionals.
What you get
- Free listener chats. Type what is on your mind and be matched with a listener, often within minutes.
- Peer support rooms and forums on specific topics, with moderators.
- Self-help guides and growth paths with short exercises.
- Teen spaces for users aged 13 to 17, with listeners approved to support teens.
- Paid therapy if you want a licensed therapist; check the site for current prices.
Who it suits
People who feel lonely, need to vent after a hard day, or want to rehearse saying something difficult before saying it to family or friends. It can be a gentle first step for someone not yet ready to see a counsellor.
How to use it well
- Treat it as a listening ear, not treatment. If low mood lasts more than two weeks or affects sleep, study or work, talk to a doctor or counsellor.
- Protect your privacy. Do not share your full name, address or phone number in chats.
- Try a few listeners if the first one is not a good fit.
- Become a listener later. Learning to listen well is a skill that helps your friends too.
Pair it with on Sefism
- Building your support system covers loneliness, asking for help without shame and being support for others.
- The Looking after your mental health roadmap explains when to move from peer support to professional help.
- Find A Helpline is for urgent help.
- For anything that is not urgent, you can also ask Tauseef a question.
Best for: a free, anonymous chat with a kind listener when you need to talk.

Stuck on something specific?
Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
