What it is
AWS Student Builder Groups, called AWS Cloud Clubs until 2026, are student-led communities on post-secondary campuses. Members learn cloud and AI together, build projects and meet other students and AWS professionals. AWS says all member progress, event history and achievements carried over from Cloud Clubs.
Who can apply
Membership is open to any learner actively enrolled in a post-secondary institution and aged 18 or over. Each group is led by a Student Builder Group Leader (previously a Cloud Club Captain), selected by AWS. If there is no group at your campus, you can apply to start one.
Timeline
You can join an existing group at any time from the official page by searching your country. Leader applications open in cycles; the form lists the current dates and regional rules. Leader terms usually run for an academic year.
How to get in
- Search the directory on the official page for a group at your university or nearby.
- Attend events and help out. Leaders look for co-organisers among active members.
- To lead, apply with a plan for your first few events and how you will reach students outside computer science.
- Build one small cloud project you can talk about, such as a static site on S3 with a serverless API.
What you get
AWS says leaders receive AWS credits, AWS Certification exam vouchers, swag and direct contact with AWS professionals. Members get free events, study groups and a peer group learning cloud together. Benefits vary by year and region.
Things to watch
Credits can still run up bills on services they do not cover. Set a billing alarm on any account you use.
