Google Developer Groups on Campus
Google's university developer clubs, formerly Google Developer Student Clubs, run by a student organiser with a core team. Any student can join a chapter's events for free, and students can apply to lead a chapter at their university. Leading one gives you real organising experience, contact with Google's developer community and a project team.

What it is
Google Developer Groups on Campus (GDG on Campus) are university chapters of Google Developer Groups. They replaced the Google Developer Student Clubs brand. Each chapter is led by a student organiser and a core team, and runs workshops, study jams, talks and project teams on topics such as Android, Flutter, Firebase, Google Cloud and AI. The wider Google Developer Groups network runs city chapters and DevFest events.
Who can apply
Anyone at a university with a chapter can join and attend events. To lead a chapter, you apply to Google through the "Lead a GDG on Campus" link on the Google for Developers community page. The application usually asks about your motivation, leadership and plans for your campus; selection is about leadership potential rather than coding ability alone.
Timeline
Joining is open all year: find your university on the GDG chapters directory and sign up. Organiser applications open once a year for the following academic year, and the exact window varies by region, so check the official page and ask your current chapter lead.
How to get in
- Join your chapter now and go to a few events.
- Volunteer for the core team. Running one workshop teaches more than attending ten, and current leads often recommend successors.
- If your university has no chapter, apply to start one, with a plan for your first semester of events.
- In the application, be concrete: what your campus lacks, three events you would run and who would help you.
What you get
For members: free workshops, study groups and team projects. For organisers: training and support from Google's community team, contact with Google Developer Experts and other organisers, and leadership experience that reads well on a CV. Benefits vary by region and year.

Stuck on something specific?
Writing only gets you so far. If you want an answer to your situation rather than the general case, book a session and we will work through it together. Sessions are free for approved Sefism members, and a few slots open each week.
