What it is
TCS CodeVita is a global programming contest launched by Tata Consultancy Services in 2012. Students compete individually through online rounds; the best qualify for a grand finale. Guinness World Records has twice listed it as the world's largest programming competition, most recently in 2026 with 146,922 participants in a single contest. TCS says Season 13 had more than 669,000 contestants from 109 countries.
Who can apply
For Season 14, according to the official site: students pursuing graduation or post-graduation in any stream of science or engineering, at any recognised institute worldwide, expecting to complete their course in 2027, 2028, 2029 or 2030.
Timeline
Registration usually opens mid-year, followed by MockVita practice rounds and then the main rounds. Season 14 registration was open in October 2026. Check the official site for round dates.
Format
From the Season 14 page: each round gives three hours, solutions can be written in C, C++, Java or Python, and only the top coders in each round advance. TCS says later rounds may include technologies beyond traditional programming.
How to prepare
- Register early with your institute details exactly as on your student records.
- Take the MockVita rounds to learn the interface and problem style.
- Practise long-statement problems. CodeVita problems often have detailed stories and strict input formats.
- Save your work often; the FAQ warns that closing the browser loses your code.
What you get
The top three coders share USD 20,000 in prize money, and finalists may travel to India for the grand finale. TCS has also used CodeVita performance in its hiring, so check the current season's details if you are interested in TCS roles.
