Stage 1 · Lesson 1 of 8
What AI governance is, and why it is a job now
is how an organisation decides which it may build or use, who owns each one, which risks it accepts and what evidence shows the controls work. It is not only ethics statements. It is inventories, risk assessments, test results, oversight procedures and .
It became a job because AI moved from labs into hiring, lending, healthcare and customer service, where mistakes hurt real people, and because laws such as the now attach legal duties to those uses. Companies selling AI to large customers also face questionnaires asking how they govern it. The work sits between engineering, legal, risk and product.
Common traptreating governance as paperwork done after launch. Good governance shapes the system early, when changing it is cheap.
