Stage 2 · Lesson 2 of 7

Products, variants and collections

Shopify: admin, stores and themes

A has a title, a description, photos and videos, and fields for search results. It also has one or more variants: versions built from options such as size and colour. Each variant has its own price, SKU (stock code), weight and stock level.

Collections group products. You can fill a collection by hand, or automatically with rules such as tag, product type or vendor. Automated collections stay correct as the adds products.

Together with product types and tags, they drive the menus, filters and search. Clean product data matters more than any , because messy variants and inconsistent tags make filters and reports useless.

Common trapcreating separate products for each colour, which splits reviews and stock, when they should be variants of one product.
