Stage 1 · Lesson 4 of 7
Actual versus amortised cost
If you pay upfront for a one-year commitment, the actual (cash) view shows a large charge in the month you bought it and nothing after. The amortised view spreads that payment evenly over the months it covers, which matches how the benefit is used.
Finance usually wants both: reconciles to the , amortised cost shows the true monthly . Every provider's cost tool can switch between these views. Choose one for team reports and say which one you used on every chart.
Common trapshowing an actual-cost chart with a huge spike in the month a commitment was bought, and having someone panic about a cost that was planned.
