Focus, habits and time: get started, keep going, rest well

Stage 3 · Lesson 7 of 7

Use other people to get started

Start when motivation is gone

Working next to someone else, even if you do different tasks, makes it easier for many people to start and keep going. This is sometimes called body doubling, and it is why libraries, study groups and online co-working calls help. Tell a friend what you will finish by Friday and ask them to check.

Study with one serious classmate for two hours with phones away. Join a video call where everyone works quietly for 50 minutes, then talks for 10. Communities like the Sefism Discord or a university society can provide this. Choose people who will actually work, not just chat.

Common trapdepending on others so fully that you cannot start alone, or joining a group that turns every session into a social hour.
