Deciding the threshold before the test

Validate before you build

Before you run any test, write down what result counts as a pass. Also write what you will do if you miss it. This is your , sometimes called kill criteria.

For example: "At least 5 from 200 targeted visitors in two weeks, or I change the customer." Good numbers differ by product. Base yours on what would make the product worth your time, not on a figure from a blog.

Deciding in advance matters. Once you love an idea, you will explain away weak results: the timing was wrong, the page was ugly, people were busy.

Common trapmoving the goalposts after the test, or testing with no threshold at all, so nothing ever gets decided.
