Stage 5 · Lesson 2 of 7
Signs that need a professional
The NHS and WHO list similar signs of depression. Feeling sad, empty or hopeless most of the time. Losing interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy.
Changes in sleep, either much more or much less. Changes in appetite or weight. Feeling tired with no energy.
Finding it hard to concentrate or make decisions. Feeling worthless or very guilty. Moving or speaking more slowly, or feeling restless.
Thoughts of death or of hurting yourself. You do not need all of these for it to matter. This list is not for diagnosing yourself or anyone else; it is to help you decide to get help and to describe what you feel.
If you have any thoughts of suicide or self-harm, contact a crisis line or emergency services now, as in stage 1.
