Handling rejection and setbacks

Stage 5 · Lesson 4 of 6

Money, debt and family after a failed venture

Failed projects and startups

Some setbacks come with real money problems: savings spent on a startup, a family loan, unpaid salaries. These are heavy, and pretending otherwise does not help. Write down exactly what is owed and to whom, then make a plan: a job, a repayment schedule, a frank talk with whoever lent the money.

Many families lend money to children who start businesses, and a clear plan makes it easier for them too. If debts or threats are serious, get advice from someone qualified rather than borrowing more to cover the hole. If the pressure brings low mood that will not lift, see the mental health roadmap at /roadmaps/mental-health/.
