Handling rejection and setbacks

Stage 5 · Lesson 5 of 6

What a failed project gives you

Failed projects and startups

A failed project still leaves you with real things: skills you learned, code you can reuse or show, people you worked with, and the judgement that only comes from seeing something not work. Founders of failed startups often say they learned more in those months than in years of study.

Make the gains concrete. List the skills you used that you did not have before, the problems you solved, the decisions you would make differently, and the people you would work with again.

Common trapwriting the whole thing off as wasted time, which throws away the most valuable part, the lessons, along with the product.
