Handling rejection and setbacks

Stage 5 · Lesson 1 of 6

Why projects usually fail

Failed projects and startups

Student and side projects most often fail for ordinary reasons: the scope was too big, the team split the work badly, nobody owned the deadline, or the hard part was left until the end. Startups often fail because there were not enough people who wanted the thing, because the money ran out before it found users, or because the founders fell out.

Knowing the common causes helps you see that your failure was probably one of them, not proof that you cannot build anything. List the causes honestly, including the ones outside your control.

Common trapa single explanation, either "I am useless" or "my teammates ruined it", when most project failures have several causes at once.
