Building real confidence

Stage 3 · Lesson 6 of 6

Celebrating others without shrinking

Comparison, LinkedIn and your own timeline

Someone else's success is not your failure. Opportunities are not a single pie; a friend getting an internship does not take yours. Congratulating people genuinely, in person or in a comment, is good for the relationship and usually good for you too: you build a network of people who are going places, and they are more likely to share what helped them.

Try asking a successful peer one curious question: "What made the difference for you?" You will often learn about rejections and luck they did not post.

Common trappretending to be happy while privately keeping score. It is fine to feel a little envy and congratulate them anyway; both can be true at once.
