Building real confidence

Stage 4 · Lesson 4 of 6

Real skill is the foundation

Collecting evidence and small wins

Not all low confidence is a thinking problem. Sometimes you feel unsure because you genuinely have not learned the skill yet, and the answer is practice, not positive thinking. If you are nervous about coding interviews, solving problems regularly will help more than affirmations.

If you fear presenting, rehearsing ten times will help more than reading about confidence. Be honest: is this doubt about a skill I have but do not trust, or a skill I have not built yet? For the first, use stages 2 and 3.

For the second, make a practice plan with feedback. Deliberate practice, focused on the hard parts with feedback, builds skill fastest.

Common traptrying to feel confident about something you have not practised, or practising forever and never testing yourself.
