Family expectations and your own path

Stage 4 · Lesson 2 of 6

Show them real people

Build your case with evidence

Numbers help, but people convince. Your parents trust what they see in their own world: a cousin, a neighbour's son, a family friend's daughter. Find two or three people from a similar background who have done the path you want, ideally from your city or community.

A senior at your university, someone you find on LinkedIn, a relative of a relative. Ask them for twenty minutes: how they started, what their family said, what they earn roughly, what was hard. If one of them is willing to speak to your parents, even briefly, that can matter more than anything you say.

Common traponly showing famous success stories. Parents know those are rare.
