Family expectations and your own path

Stage 4 of 7 · 6 lessons · ~2 weeks

Build your case with evidence

Feelings start the conversation; evidence moves it. Turn your path into something your family can see: what it pays, who does it, how long it takes, what could go wrong and what you will do then.

Start: Real salaries and real demand

Lessons· one lesson for each topic, in this order

  1. 1Real salaries and real demand
  2. 2Show them real people
  3. 3A plan on one page
  4. 4Your plan B
  5. 5Answer their fears one by one
  6. 6Milestones your family can watch

Do this

  • Find salary ranges for your chosen role from two sources, with dates
  • Count open roles for your target title this month
  • Contact two people from a background like yours who have done this path
  • Write your one-page plan with dates and a money section
  • Write a specific plan B with a trigger date
  • Make the table: their fear, what is true, what your plan does about it
  • Choose three milestones you will share with your family

Start with

Practise

  • Count real open roles in Pakistan for your target title this month

  • See demand for your role locally and remotely, and find people who do it

Keep handy

  • Real salary data by company and level, so your numbers hold up

  • Salary ranges and company reviews your parents can read themselves

Before moving on: A one-page plan with dated steps, honest salary ranges with sources, two real people from a similar background, a specific plan B, and a table that answers your family's top fears.

Tauseef's advice
Bring evidence, not passion alone. Your parents have heard many children say "trust me". Very few bring a page with real numbers, real people, dates and a fallback. That page changes the tone of the room.

Struggling right now? If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line: Find a helpline (any country), Umang (Pakistan), Tele-MANAS, 14416 (India).
