Stage 5 · Lesson 2 of 6
Your opening lines
The first minute sets the tone. Start with respect and the shared goal, not the demand. For example: "I know you have sacrificed a lot for my education, and I want a stable, respected career too.
I have been thinking carefully about how to get there, and I want to show you a plan." Then share what you want, briefly, and invite their worries: "I know you may be worried about this. I want to hear what worries you." Write your opening down and practise it aloud, in the language you speak at home.
Common trapopening with "I have decided". It removes their role in the decision and makes them fight for it.
