Stage 5 · Lesson 1 of 6
Choose the time and the place
The same words land very differently at different moments. Avoid times when your parents are tired, stressed about money, in front of relatives, or right after an argument or a bad result. Choose a calm time with privacy, maybe a weekend afternoon or a walk, and ask for it: "Abbu, can I talk to you about my studies on Saturday?
It matters to me." Asking ahead shows respect and gives them a moment to prepare. Think about who to talk to first: often one parent is more open and can help with the other.
Common trapblurting it out during a fight, when the real topic gets lost in the anger of the moment.
