Stage 4 · Lesson 7 of 7
Missed a day? Never miss twice
Everyone misses days: exams, illness, weddings, travel, a bad night. Lally's study found that missing one day did not undo habit formation. What does the damage is the story you tell afterwards: "I broke my streak, so I have failed, so there is no point."
A simple rule many people use is never miss twice: if you miss today, make tomorrow non-negotiable, even if you do only the tiny version. Plan for known disruptions in advance, like a smaller version during Ramadan, exam week or a family event. Missing is part of the process, not proof you cannot do it.
Common trapall-or-nothing thinking, where one missed day turns into a missed month because you feel you have already ruined it.
