Focus, habits and time: get started, keep going, rest well

Stage 6 · Lesson 6 of 7

Batch the small stuff

Plan your week and protect deep work

Messages, emails, forms, small errands and admin are necessary, but scattered across the day they break up every chance of focus. Batch them instead: set one or two times a day to answer messages and emails, and one block a week for admin like fee payments, applications and paperwork.

Tell friends and family when you usually reply, so they are not worried by silence. For WhatsApp groups, mute the noisy ones and check them in your batch time. If something truly urgent comes up, people will call.

This keeps your best hours for important work and stops small tasks from piling up into a crisis.

Common trapreplying to everything the moment it arrives, feeling responsive and productive, and finishing the day with nothing important done.
