Focus, habits and time: get started, keep going, rest well

Stage 6 · Lesson 3 of 7

Block time on your calendar

Plan your week and protect deep work

A list says what to do; a calendar says when. Time blocking means giving your priorities specific slots: Tuesday 9 to 11 am, lab report; Thursday 7 to 8 pm, applications. Start with your fixed commitments, then put your hardest work in your best hours, then add smaller tasks around them.

Leave empty space between blocks and some free time each day, because things always run over and life interrupts. If a block gets missed, move it to another slot instead of deleting it. Google Calendar or a paper diary both work.

Common trapfilling every hour from 6 am to midnight, which looks impressive on Sunday and collapses by Tuesday, leaving you feeling you failed the whole week.
