Stage 3 · Lesson 1 of 7
Find out what actually happened
A failed exam usually has a mix of causes. Some are about preparation: you started late, read notes instead of practising, or skipped past papers. Some are about the exam itself: time ran out, you misread questions, nerves blanked your mind.
Some are circumstances: illness, family trouble, a part-time job, a bad teacher or an unfair paper. Get the facts before you judge yourself. Look at your marked paper if your university lets you, compare it with the marking scheme and ask the teacher where marks were lost.
Common trapconcluding "I am not smart enough" when the paper shows you lost most marks on one question type you never practised.
