Handling rejection and setbacks

Stage 3 · Lesson 7 of 7

When the subject might be the wrong fit

Failed exams and a low CGPA

Sometimes repeated failure in a subject is a signal, not just bad luck. You might be in a degree you chose for family, status or because your marks allowed it, and the work does not suit how your mind works. That is worth thinking about calmly, not in the week of a bad result.

Look at the subjects where you do well and enjoy the work, talk to seniors in other fields and consider whether a change of specialisation, elective path or career direction fits better. The Knowing yourself roadmap at /roadmaps/self-awareness/ helps with that.

Common trapdeciding to quit in the heat of one failure, or staying for years in something wrong because changing feels like admitting defeat.

A question to check yourself come when you add the roadmap to your account. Add it
