Stage 1 · Lesson 6 of 6
When it is more than confidence
Low confidence is common and can be built with practice. Sometimes, though, what feels like low confidence is part of something bigger: feeling worthless most of the time, losing interest in things you used to enjoy, sleeping badly, or feeling hopeless for weeks.
Strong fear of social situations that stops you going to class or work can also need more than self-help. These are signs to talk to a doctor, counsellor or psychologist, and Sefism's mental health roadmap at /roadmaps/mental-health/ explains how to find help you can afford.
If you ever have thoughts of harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line now; Find A Helpline lists them by country.
Common trapblaming yourself for not being confident enough when what you need is support.
