Stage 6 · Lesson 4 of 6
Trial periods with clear checkpoints
A trial period is one of the most useful tools in family negotiation. You ask for a fixed time, say six or twelve months, to try your path, with clear checkpoints agreed in advance: a certificate by month three, a first paid project by month six, a job offer by month twelve.
If you meet them, the family supports the path. If you do not, you will try the agreed plan B. This turns an open-ended fear into a bounded experiment. It also protects you from endless debate.
Common trapagreeing a trial with vague checkpoints like "show some progress". Make them concrete enough that no one can argue later about whether you met them.
