Stage 7 · Lesson 5 of 8
Bridge income: contract and freelance work
If the search runs long, short contract or freelance work can bridge the gap. It pays some bills, keeps your skills sharp and gives you something current to talk about in interviews. Former employers, agencies, local businesses and platforms such as Upwork are the usual routes.
Treat it as a bridge: keep it to part of your week so the main search does not stop, and agree clear scope and payment terms in writing. Check the terms of any agreement first, as some restrict work for competitors for a period.
Common trapdrifting into underpaid work that fills every day and stops the search, or being embarrassed to mention it. "I did for two clients while I searched" is a good answer in an interview.
