Stage 7 · Lesson 7 of 8
Spot job scams aimed at laid-off people
People who have just been laid off are a favourite target for scammers. Common signs: a job offered without a real interview, a chat on Telegram or WhatsApp instead of a company email, a request to pay for training, equipment or a "visa fee", a cheque to deposit and send part of back, or a request for your national ID or bank details before a signed offer.
Some copy the names and logos of real companies. Check that the job appears on the company's own careers page, that the email domain is the company's own, and look the recruiter up. A real employer never asks you to pay to get a job.
Common trapthat stress and urgency lower your guard exactly when scams are most convincing.
