Layoffs and AI: stay hard to cut, bounce back if it happens

Stage 7 · Lesson 4 of 8

Close the gap the market is asking for

Bounce back: the search after a layoff

A layoff is painful, but it can also be the first time in years you have full days to learn. Use some of them well. Read 20 job ads for the roles you want and count the skills they ask for.

The two or three you lack and that appear most often are your gap. Then close it with something you can show, not only a certificate: a small project, a contribution, a write-up. In 2026 that often means showing you can build with and around AI tools, alongside the basics of your field. Keep it to a few weeks per skill and put it on your CV and as you go.

Common trapspending the whole search learning, putting off applications until you feel ready, which never comes.

A question to check yourself, an AI practice session and 1 cheat sheet entry come when you add the roadmap to your account. Add it
