Stage 1 · Lesson 5 of 6
Skills grow, so results can change
Carol Dweck's research describes two beliefs about ability. With a fixed mindset, a failure feels like proof of a limit you were born with. With a growth mindset, it is information about what to practise next.
Most people hold a mix, and it changes by area: you may feel fixed about maths and growth-minded about cricket. Later studies found the effect of short mindset lessons is smaller than early headlines suggested, so treat it as a useful lens, not a magic switch. What matters is behaviour: changing your method, asking for help and trying again.
Common traprepeating "growth mindset" as a slogan while studying or applying in exactly the same way that failed last time.
