Stage 4 · Lesson 1 of 7
Emotions are information
Many of us grew up hearing that some emotions are bad: do not be angry, do not be sad, boys do not cry, good girls do not complain. But emotions are not good or bad; they are signals. Anxiety often means something matters and feels uncertain.
Anger often means a boundary or a sense of fairness was crossed. Sadness often means a loss. Boredom often means a need for challenge or meaning.
Treating them as information lets you ask what they are pointing to, instead of fighting them or obeying them. You do not have to act on every feeling, but you should listen to it.
Common trapeither ignoring feelings until they explode, or treating every feeling as a fact about the world.
