Stage 1 · Lesson 3 of 7
Why personality types are weak evidence
Tests like MBTI and 16Personalities are fun and can start good conversations, but they are weak evidence for life decisions. They sort you into boxes, introvert or extravert, thinking or feeling, when real traits sit on a scale and most people are near the middle.
Many people get a different type when they retake the test a few weeks later, and the types do little to predict how well someone will do in a job. Psychologists who study personality prefer the Big Five model (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, emotional stability), which measures traits as scales and has much better evidence. Even that describes tendencies, not destiny.
Common trapchoosing a degree or career because a four-letter code said you are "meant to be" something.
