Building your support system

Stage 1 of 7 · 6 lessons · ~1 week

Loneliness is common and changeable

Start by seeing loneliness for what it is: a normal signal, very common at your age, and something you can work on. Then map the support you already have and where the gaps are.

Start: You are not the only one

Lessons· one lesson for each topic, in this order

  1. 1You are not the only one
  2. 2Being alone is not the same as being lonely
  3. 3The different kinds of support
  4. 4Why loneliness grows after a move
  5. 5Map the support you already have
  6. 6When loneliness turns into something heavier

Do this

  • Write down when you feel most lonely and what is happening then
  • List the six kinds of support and who fills each one now
  • Draw your support map with three rings
  • Message one person you have lost touch with
  • Say hello properly to one person near you whom you barely know
  • Save Find A Helpline and one person you would call on a hard day

Start with· follow one of these

Keep handy

Before moving on: A map of your current support in three rings, a list of the kinds of support you have and are missing, two people you will contact this week, and one helpline saved for hard days.

Tauseef's advice
Loneliness is not a verdict on you. It is information. Most people who build good support do it slowly and on purpose: one message, one coffee, one group at a time. Start with the warm connections you already have.

Struggling right now? If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line: Find a helpline (any country), Umang (Pakistan), Tele-MANAS, 14416 (India).
