Stage 1 · Lesson 4 of 6
Why loneliness grows after a move
Loneliness often arrives with change: starting university, moving into a hostel, a new job, a new city, or going abroad. Your old friends are far away, the new place has unfamiliar habits and language, and everyone else seems to have formed groups already.
Busy study or work schedules, night shifts and long commutes leave little time. Phones help you stay in touch with home, but they can also keep you from building anything where you are. None of this is your fault, and all of it is common.
Common trapwaiting for friendship to happen on its own, the way it did at school, where you saw the same people every day without trying.
