Stage 2 of 8 · 7 lessons · ~5 weeks

Make in depth

Learn Make properly: scenarios and modules, bundles and mapping, functions, routers and filters, iterators and aggregators, data stores, connections and how credits are billed.

Start: Scenarios, modules and bundles

Lessons· one lesson for each topic, in this order

  1. 1Scenarios, modules and bundles
  2. 2Mapping and functions
  3. 3Routers and filters
  4. 4Iterators and aggregators
  5. 5Data stores
  6. 6Connections, webhooks and the HTTP app
  7. 7Credits, scheduling and pricing

Do this

  • Create a free Make account and finish the Make Foundation and Make Basics courses in Make Academy.
  • Build a scenario with a router, two filters and a fallback route.
  • Use an iterator to split an array and an aggregator to join it back into one bundle.
  • Write three mapping formulas with functions such as lower, trim and ifempty.
  • Store and look up a record in a data store.
  • Run the scenario ten times and calculate its credit use per run and per month.

Keep handy

  • Official pages on modules, mapping functions, routers, iterators and credits

Before moving on: A Make scenario on the free plan that watches a form or webhook, uses a router with two filtered routes, iterates over a list, aggregates the result into one message and logs each run to a data store.

Tauseef's advice
Think in bundles: every module outputs one or more bundles, and every later module runs once per bundle. Once that clicks, iterators, aggregators and credit counts all make sense. Keep an eye on the credit counter after every test run; a scenario that runs every minute on a busy trigger can use a month of credits in days.
