Family expectations and your own path

Stage 2 · Lesson 3 of 7

Going abroad, or not being allowed to

Name the pressure you are under

Going abroad pulls families both ways. Some parents push hard for it: a foreign degree, a job in the Gulf, Europe or North America, money sent home and pride in the family. Others refuse to let a child go, especially a daughter or an only son, because of distance, safety, cost or fear of losing them to another culture.

Either way, the move is usually a family decision more than a personal one. Find out exactly what the objection or the push is about: money, safety, marriage, caring for parents later, or something else. The Higher studies and Tech jobs abroad roadmaps cover the practical side.

Common traptreating "abroad" as one question. It is many smaller ones, and some can be solved.
