Stage 1 · Lesson 4 of 7
Money, sacrifice and security
Money sits under a lot of family pressure. Your parents may have paid fees they could barely afford, taken loans, or sold land. They may be counting on your income for younger siblings, a sister's wedding, their old age or a family debt.
In many places there is no pension or safety net, so the children are the safety net. When they push for a "safe" job, part of what they mean is: we cannot afford for this to fail. Take that seriously.
A plan that ignores the family's money situation is not a serious plan to them, however good it is.
Common traptreating the money worry as greed. Very often it is a reasonable fear about real bills.
