Stage 1 · Lesson 2 of 7
Status, relatives and "log kya kahenge"
In many families, a child's career is also the family's reputation. Relatives ask at weddings what you are doing. A doctor, an engineer at a known company, a government officer or a son working abroad is easy to say with pride.
"He is building some app" or "she is freelancing" is harder to explain. The worry about what people will say, often put as "log kya kahenge", is real social pressure on your parents too, not only on you. You cannot remove it, but you can help them answer it: give them a sentence they can say proudly about your path.
Common trapmocking the status worry. To your parents it is about belonging and respect in the only community they have.
