Stage 1 · Lesson 3 of 7
The world your parents grew up in
Your parents' advice is built from the world they knew. Many grew up when a government job meant security for life, when a medical or engineering seat was the clearest way up, and when private sector jobs could vanish overnight. Some saw relatives lose everything, or worked very hard so that you would not have to.
Their map was accurate for their time and place. The problem is that maps go out of date: whole careers in software, design, data and remote work barely existed when they chose. So treat their view as experience, not ignorance. Ask what they saw happen to people.
Common trapcalling their view old-fashioned. They will hear it as "your life taught you nothing", and stop listening.
